A week of jazz unfolds across Cape Town

Cape Town’s Jazz Week returns with events across the city, including Zoë Modiga’s listening session at Vault On Bree and performances at major jazz festivals.

Jazz Week returns to Cape Town this March, with a series of events taking place across the city. From small listening rooms to large festival stages, the programme brings together musicians, DJs and audiences around a shared focus on sound.

At the centre of the week is Vault On Bree, a space that has become known for its listening sessions and vinyl-led events. The programme opens on Tuesday, 24 March, with Zoë Modiga’s The Vault: The Art of Listening In.

The Durban-born artist presents an early listen of her upcoming project. The session follows previous stops in Johannesburg, Gqeberha and Durban. In Cape Town, she shifts the format into a more intimate setting, guiding guests through unreleased material.

Rather than a live performance, the session is structured around listening. Modiga introduces each track and its context, creating a slower, more focused way of engaging with the music. Her sound moves between jazz, soul and African rhythm, with a strong emphasis on mood and storytelling.

Two nights later, Vault On Bree hosts DJ Bob Jazz Club at the corner of Castle and Bree Street. The lineup includes DJ Bob, Sumthin Brown, Atiyyah Khan and Paul Waxon. The focus here is on vinyl, with selectors drawing from jazz archives and underground collections.

Beyond Bree Street, the week expands into larger stages. The Montreux Jazz Festival South Africa returns with a programme that includes Mandisi Dyantyis, Kujenga, Rosey Gold, Candice Horn, and Msaki with Jesse Clegg.

The Cape Town International Jazz Festival also returns, with artists such as Scorpion Kings, Nduduzo Makhathini, Zoë Modiga and Jacob Collier on the lineup.

Across these spaces, G-STAR appears as a cultural partner during the week, present at a number of the events and activations. The brand is also linked to a series of in-store moments at Vault On Bree, including retail offers tied to Jazz Week activity.

Together, the programme reflects a mix of formats. Small, controlled listening environments sit alongside large-scale performances. Across both, the focus remains on how music is experienced, whether through close listening or live performance.
