Inspired by the Kaapse Klopse, a tradition both celebratory and complex, Klop Klop is a visual ode to coloured identity in South Africa.

The works on display honour the creative spirit of the Cape Minstrel Carnival while confronting its historical entanglements with colonial conquest and apartheid-era oppression.

Through sixteen poignant artworks and an accompanying documentary film, Klop Klop acts as both a visual archive and a living conversation.

It interrogates themes of identity as performance, legacy in community, and artistic evolution among coloured creatives. Each brushstroke, photograph, and frame serving as a form of both defiance and belonging.

This exhibition marks the beginning of a long-term, multidisciplinary journey. One rooted in research, community, and the preservation of cultural traditions through contemporary storytelling.
