Cannes Young Lions Competition

Meet the Young Creatives Heading to Cannes

Last week we reminded you to apply for your chance to go to Cannes. This week, we’re announcing the winners. Four rising creatives from South Africa have just earned a spot on one of the world’s biggest creative stages.

Ster-Kinekor, in partnership with Heineken® South Africa, has announced the winners of this year’s Cannes Young Lions competition. The two winning teams will represent SA at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity in June.

It’s the first time South Africa is sending teams in both the Film and Digital categories. The brief was real-world, the deadline was tight—only 48 hours—and the results were standout.

Digital category winners:

Louise Laas and Khanyisile Modiba from Metropolitan Republic took on the issue of drinking and driving with a clever digital idea for Heineken® 0.0 and Arrive Alive. Their five-slide campaign made an impact with a fresh approach to behaviour change.

Film category winners:

Khomotso Lwazi Makoto and Paula Stephanie Andropoulos from TBWA Hunt Lascaris created a 60-second film that told an emotional story about vision and sight. Their entry brought Ster-Kinekor’s Vision Mission to life through strong visuals and heart.

Judges praised both teams for their bold thinking, insight, and creative craft.

“This marks the beginning of what we see as a long-term investment in creative excellence,” said Andrea Quaye, Marketing Director at HEINEKEN Beverages.

Ster-Kinekor’s Lynne Wylie added: “We are incredibly proud of these young teams and can’t wait to see them compete on the global stage.”

The teams will travel to Cannes this June to attend talks, meet top creatives, and go up against other winning teams from around the world in the Young Lions competition.
