Carrying Culture Through Our Crowns: HAIR-itage at Mall of Africa

For many of us, hair is more than a look. It’s the way our grandmother used to braid on a Sunday afternoon, the smell of relaxer in a cousin’s kitchen, the first big chop after high school. Hair holds memory. It tells us who we are and where we come from.

This Heritage Month, Creme of Nature and Mall of Africa are creating space for those stories at HAIR-itage, a pop-up salon running from 10–20 September at SOOK Mall of Africa.

The installation isn’t just about products or styles. It’s about conversations. Expect live masterclasses, panel talks, and styling sessions that connect personal care with cultural memory. Visitors who purchase two Creme of Nature products can sit down with professional stylists for complimentary aftercare and styling.

On Saturday 13 September, a midday masterclass dives into hair techniques, while Saturday 20 September brings a panel discussion on hair and heritage. Both events ask a bigger question: how do we carry culture through our crowns?

“Hair has always been more than beauty. It’s memory, identity, and culture, with HAIR-itage, we want to celebrate every texture and style, giving people the chance to explore, express, and embrace their heritage through hair.” says Zandi Zinganto, Brand Manager at Creme of Nature.

For Mall of Africa, the collaboration adds to their reputation as a hub for hair and beauty. “We’re excited to extend this offering even further this Heritage Month,” says Yasmeen Lorgat, General Manager.

The HAIR-itage pop-up runs from 10–20 September, open daily from 9 AM–8 PM at SOOK Mall of Africa.
