As a leading market-maker and proponent of local design, it comes as no surprise that Clout/SA is bringing the very best of South African talent to 100% Design Africa, which takes place at the Sandton Convention Centre from 3-6 August 2023. Clout/SA will present three different exhibition stands, all curated by creative director Tracy Lynch: The Nando’s HYD showcase, a display of decor items by the Keiskamma Art Project X Clout/SA, and the SOL Design Collection.
The 2022 Nando’s HYD winners exhibition showcases the works of Kalki Ceramics, a Durban-based design studio headed by co-founders Nindya Bucktowar and Nikhil Tricam. Kalki Ceramics specialises in bespoke handcrafted ceramic tiles, looking to South African flora and natural landscapes for inspiration. Tricam and Bucktowar were named the overall winners of the 2022 edition of the talent search competition, which called on designers from across South Africa to conceptualise a condiment unit to display the acclaimed peri-peri sauces available in Nando’s. The duo’s server was chosen from over 120 entries by a prestigious panel of 17 local and global industry judges. As part of their prize, their concept design was subsequently brought to life with their signature handmade ceramic tiles, thanks to support from Clout/SA.
Kalki’s breathtaking Fynbos server will be on display at 100% Design Africa alongside an expanded range of fynbos-inspired functional art pieces that draw on the duo’s combined experience in ceramics, product design and architecture. The full showcase will include a table and benches tiled in shades of green reminiscent of local flora, as well as lights, wall tiles and a coffee table.
The Kalki display is one part of Clout/S’s exciting trio of curated stands. On Level 2 of the Sandton Convention Centre, at the entrance to the 100% Design Africa/Design Joburg exhibition hall, guests will be wowed by SOL’s ‘Live from the Sunny Side’ campaign. This is an all-new collection of South African designs created for the global beer brand that was curated and facilitated by Clout/SA.
The third Clout/SA stand will feature a collaboration with the Keiskamma Art Project (KAP), debuting a range of printed wallpapers and fabrics that expresses KAP’s unique embroidery style. This stand will also feature a new collection of furniture by David Krynauw, including a bed, and rugs by Moonbasket.
Each of these exciting collaborations forms part of Clout/SA’s larger portfolio promoting South African designers to a broader audience.
One entry ticket grants access to all three shows – 100% Design Africa, Design Joburg and Decorex Joburg – which will take place across four levels of the Sandton Convention Centre on 3-6 August. For more information and ticket sales visit https://itickets.co.za/register/new/474029.
