Pharrell williams – coachella 2014

How Pharrell Ended Up Designing for Louis Vuitton

You know him as a musician. A producer. A hitmaker. But Pharrell Williams has always been more than that. For years, he’s been shaping what fashion looks like, from the streets to the runway.

He’s always been an excellent tastemaker and a style curator. Now he’s the Men’s Creative Director at Louis Vuitton. This means he’s not longer just influencing fashion by pointing out what is working and styling it his unique way but by creating new fashion pieces under a global brand.

In case you’re as curious as we are about his journey, we’ve put a timeline together to break it down. Here’s how he got there.

2003 – Skateboards and Streetwear

Pharrell launches Billionaire Boys Club and Ice Cream Footwear with Nigo (yes, the Nigo from BAPE). It’s luxury streetwear before the term even existed. The clothes are bold. Graphic. A little weird. Everyone’s obsessed.

2004 – First Link with Louis Vuitton

Marc Jacobs is in charge at LV. He taps Pharrell to design a line of jewellery with Camille Miceli and the now-iconic Millionaire sunglasses. It’s high-luxury meets hip-hop.

2010s – Collabs Everywhere

Chanel. Moncler. adidas. G-Star RAW. Pharrell’s name starts popping up everywhere. He’s designing sneakers. Jackets. Bags. Even helping create campaigns. Fashion insiders start taking him seriously.

He’s no longer just a stylish guy. He’s starting to shape what style is.

2019 – Chanel x Pharrell

He creates a capsule collection with Chanel. Oversized logos, streetwear silhouettes, gold chains and limited edition Chanel low top sneakers designed by Pharrell himself. It was one of the brand’s boldest moves but most importantly proof that Pharrell knows how to flip a legacy label.

2021 – Virgil’s Legacy

Virgil Abloh passes away. The fashion world is gutted. He changed everything, he made it normal for street kids and sneakerheads to be in luxury rooms. The question on everyone’s mind: Who could ever follow that?

2023 – The Announcement

Louis Vuitton names Pharrell as its new Men’s Creative Director. Some people are surprised. Most aren’t. He’s been orbiting this role for 20 years. It’s not a stunt, it’s a full-circle moment.

June 2023 – The First Show

Paris. Pont Neuf bridge. Pharrell drops his first LV collection during fashion week. Jay-Z performs. Rihanna’s in the front row. The collection blends camouflage, luxury tailoring and bold accessories. Everything’s loud, polished, and full of joy.

He’s not just carrying on Virgil’s vision. He’s building his own.

2025 – SS26 and a Song Drop

His third show just happened in Paris. It came with a new track, created especially for the runway. Pharrell’s still blurring the lines. Still doing what he’s always done, bringing music, art and culture into fashion.

From Billionaire Boys Club to the top of Louis Vuitton. It’s been a long time coming but we think Pharrell’s still just getting started.
