World-class light festival set to transform the Company’s Garden from April 9–12. LUMENOCITY launched to the media last night with a sneak peek at what’s to come.
Cape Town’s first large-scale light festival -launches tonight and is set to run from April 9–12 at the Company’s Garden. For four nights, the historic gardens will transform into a spectacular, walkable world of light, art and immersive installations – bringing together a curated collective of South African artists, designers and creative studios in one of the city’s most iconic spaces.

From towering, illuminated sculptures and kaleidoscopic structures to projection-mapped artworks and interactive light environments, LUMENOCITY invites visitors to step into a fully immersive nighttime experience – reimagining how the city is seen, felt and explored after dark. Food trucks and hospitality will also be on hand for nighttime bites and sips.
Festival founder Gareth Hadden says opening night marks a defining moment for the project and for the city.
Tonight is incredibly special for us,” says Hadden. “After years of imagining what LUMENOCITY could be, we finally get to share it. It’s about creating something that feels both world-class and proudly Cape Town.”
Safety and accessibility have been central to the event’s planning, with the City of Cape Town working closely with organisers to ensure a secure and well-managed experience.
