Join artist Samurai Farai for an exclusive walk-through of his solo exhibition Masks of Modernity: Volume 2, where he unpacks identity, influence, and the evolution of his bold visual style.
In his latest solo exhibition, Masks of Modernity: Volume 2, Zimbabwean-Afrikaans artist Samurai Farai invites us into a world where colour, symbolism and cultural tension collide. Known for his bold visual language and genre-defying practice, Farai’s work explores identity, ancestry, and the future of African expression beyond colonial constraints.
We joined him for a personal walk-through of the exhibition, where he opened up about how his style has evolved, the influences that shape his work, and the pieces he considers his bravest yet. He also reflects on whether he identifies as a street artist and how his murals, sculptures, and paintings push against expectations placed on African creatives.
From maximalism as resistance to masks as tools of revelation, this exhibition is less a traditional showcase and more a space for reimagining African identity in all its layered complexity.
