Sindiso Khumalo’s “In Full Bloom” Collection Lands at Her First Cape Town Flagship.
When Sindiso Khumalo opened her first flagship store in Cape Town a few weeks ago, it marked a milestone for the designer. But what makes the moment even more exciting is the new collection launched with the store, In Full Bloom.
The collection sits at the centre of the space and reflects what Khumalo’s work has always been about: celebrating women’s stories. Inspired by the women in her own life, the pieces merge hand-block prints from Jaipur with embroideries made in Cape Town, linking South African and Indian craft traditions.
Colour carries the story too. Shades of turmeric, rose and sage run through the silhouettes, echoing her recent travels to India and Morocco. There, Khumalo met artisans whose bold use of colour and pattern left a lasting mark on her practice.
Known for her painterly prints and considered design approach, Khumalo has spent the last decade building her brand globally, showing at Milan Fashion Week and collaborating with names like Vans, IKEA and & Other Stories. With this collection, she grounds that journey in Cape Town, while expanding her world with more accessible pieces like T-shirts and collars alongside her signature 60s-inspired shapes.
The flagship itself is a continuation of the story. Set in Longkloof, the space features furniture and design from South African studios such as ARRANGE, Dokter and Misses, and Wunders, with art by Marsi van de Heuvel. Every element is personal and intentional – surplus tiles, a reworked Heath Nash sofa, a blush velvet curtain – each carrying the same values of sustainability and circular design that have shaped her collections.
“In Full Bloom” is a reminder of what clothing can hold. As Khumalo puts it, she thinks of garments as “little talismans that move with you through your life.” It’s a collection rooted in craft, community and joy, and now it has a home in Cape Town.
