Double-tap Women’s Month edition: this MUA you should follow on IG!

Roxanne Bayman, an alumni from Total Concept Academy, started her career at Mac Cosmetics, where she gained experience, before relocating to Cape Town to pursue a career as a freelance MUA. This experience confirmed her love for meeting new people, whilst cultivating the perfect environment for her to share her professional knowledge about makeup.

I have always loved makeup. I grew up around many strong and beautiful women, including my mother, who also had this same passion for makeup and fashion. My mom encouraged me to experiment. From early on in life, she taught me the importance of skincare. Combined with a love for drawing and painting, I felt like makeup artistry was a natural progression and an extension of that interest, but simply on a different type of canvas

At the age of 28, Bayman ventured on a drastic career change that would forever change for life for the good – now, she can say with confidence that makeup is her full-time job. On the gram, Bayman goes by the IG handle Fair.child_makeup, with a following hitting close to 1k. She is trusted by her select clientele base, all of whom have the pleasure of witnessing some of her timeless styles. Her more conceptual and avant-garde work receives the most attention and we can see why! Bayman isn’t afraid to play with colour and texture to create unconventional beauty looks.

We asked Bayman, What cosmetic products do you use every day?

Here is what she had to say:

I believe that a good makeup day begins with good skin care. I am loving the CerVe Facial Moisturising Lotion. It is lightweight, affordable and in a convenient pump tube. My current favourite sunscreen and something that I apply everyday, is the Bioderma Sun Cream (SPF 50 +). This product works so well under makeup. Applying some Mascara is a must for me, I am currently using the Huda Beauty Legit Lashes Mascara. Lastly, for makeup removal, I use Garnier Micellar Water, before cleansing

I am loving/ appreciating the move towards glowy/ dewy makeup. A trend that I believe originated in K-Beauty and the “glass skin trend”. This, paired with a natural, fluffy brow is something I feel can simply complete a look. Lastly, I am a big fan of lip tints or tinted lip oils, versus stay-fast lipsticks, which can appear heavy

On weekends, what are the fun and cool activities you do to relax and take it easy? Do you have a weekend routine?

In my down time, I take the time to catch up on a good movie and spend time with family and friends. I enjoy exploring the sights in Cape Town and surrounds. On the odd occasion, when I do not have admin to catch up on, I enjoy putting on some music and just getting lost in my illustration work.

What exciting plans/ jobs do you have in store looking into the future?

I have been so fortunate to reach many exciting milestones this year, within my career and portfolio. I would like to refocus on projects where I can express my personal style and get more creative. I would also really love to work on a movie this year. On a personal note, I am looking forward to creating my own makeup look for my wedding day.
