If you’re in Joburg this weekend and even slightly into cool local design, this one’s worth your time. RMB Latitudes Art Fair has teamed up with Design Week South Africa to launch the Design Showcase and it’s now open and running this entire weekend.
Happening at Shepstone Gardens from 23 to 25 May, the showcase brings together 25 creative brands from across the country. It’s the first time the fair is putting this much focus on design. You can still see loads of amazing art, but now you’ll also find fashion, objects, accessories, furniture, and things you didn’t know you needed until now.

There are five dedicated spaces. Four of them are full-on brand pop-ups. That means you can meet the designers, explore their work in person, and shop direct. The line-up includes Something Good Studio, Duck Duck Goose, Viviers, Pichulik, Merchants on Long and The Herd. All very different. All very cool.

The fifth space is more of a curated concept store, with pieces from a mix of emerging and established names. If you’re into small-batch, handmade, or just beautifully designed things, go straight there. You’ll find work by: Art School Africa, Apartment, Ballo, Crystal Birch, Design Afrika, Lulasclan, just to name a few.

WHY Go?
It’s the kind of place where you can discover new talent, see how design and craft intersect, or even pick up a one-of-a-kind piece. Whether you’re a collector or just window shopping, there’s plenty to explore.
Design Week South Africa’s founder Margot Molyneux says it’s about giving local brands a proper platform. “It’s opportunities like this that grow our design economy and help people connect with the work designers are doing,” she says.
