Denim, at its best, is about precision: how it fits, how it holds, how it moves. G-Star is stepping back into that space with the return of the G-Star SHAPE. Engineered through advanced pattern construction and comfort-stretch denim, the collection was created to move with the body while maintaining structure, shape and ease.
The perfect pair of denims have long felt out of reach because denims have been designed at a distance, shaped by standards that don’t always reflect how, or where it is actually worn. The result is a category that has evolved visually, but not functionally.
What’s changing now is a more considered approach, one that brings the focus back to the body. A clearer understanding of fit, proportion, and movement.
G-Star SHAPE designed to follow the body, giving women the freedom to move, work and live with confidence and ease.

Jamie-Lee Domburg, TV personality, radio broadcaster and longtime friend of the brand, played a role in the development of G-STAR Shape, bringing her perspective to the fit development process. “Honestly, if I put on a pair of jeans and I immediately start doing little squats, lunges, stretching and checking myself from every angle in the mirror… then I know we’re onto something good.”
Enter G-STAR’s new Shape range.

Originally introduced in 2017,
G-Star Shape was created with one goal in mind: challenge the standard women’s denim fit and engineer it around real proportions. SHAPE returns, revived and reimagined exclusively for South Africa.
“What I love about the G-STAR Shape range is that it doesn’t feel like you have to force yourself into the denim. The denim almost understands your body. It hugs in the right places, supports where it needs to, and still feels comfortable enough to actually live in all day,” says Jamie- Lee domburg.

What began with the Shape Skinny, now expands into two new silhouettes:
- Skinny- to sculpt and define
- Straight- shaping with balanced structure
- Loose- for a relaxed, sculptured and sculpted effect
“I also love that fashion is finally moving away from this idea that women must fit into one ‘ideal’ shape. We are all built differently, and that’s the beauty of it. The right denim should celebrate your body; not make you feel like you need to change it,” says Jamie-Lee Domburg.

And as silhouettes get wider, fit matters even more. Jamie- Lee agrees that a good fit changes how denim hangs and how confidently someone wears it. She says, “Fit is EVERYTHING. I genuinely think the right fit can change your whole mood. You know that feeling when you put something on and suddenly your posture changes? You stand taller, you walk differently, you feel more like yourself? That’s what a good fit does.”
It is less about forcing bodies into clothes and all about designing clothes around real bodies from the start.
“For me, jeans working with my body means freedom. Freedom to move, to sit comfortably at a long lunch, to run after my son, to jump into a studio session, to feel feminine and strong without constantly adjusting my outfit every five minutes.”

And maybe that’s the point. South African women are no longer just looking for jeans that look good. They want denim that understands how they actually live.
As Jamie puts it: “I think South African women want authenticity. We want fashion that feels real, versatile and empowering. Pieces that work for our actual lives.
South African women are bold, dynamic, hardworking and stylish all at once, and I think fashion is finally starting to reflect that.”
