A Showstopper: The Bespoke Sofa and Duffel Bag
The centerpiece of the collaboration was a bespoke Sofa and Duffel Bag, designed by Magugu and Weylandts. The sofa, a masterpiece of design and craftsmanship, seamlessly blends Magugu’s unique aesthetic with Weylandts’ vision of bold, authentic design.

The fabric was inspired by Magugu’s heritage and history, drawing from the unique designs of the Basotho blanket. A jacquard weave woven locally in Cape Town, the corn motifs and twin stitching present throughout these pieces are a nod to the fruitfulness and fertility that collaboration can bring.

Magugu House: A Canvas for Collaboration
Thebe Magugu’s first physical showroom, Magugu House, with its expansive grounds and 1931 residence, served as a perfect canvas to showcase the fruits of the collaboration. Weylandts’ distinctive range of furniture and homeware adorned the ground floor, blending seamlessly with Magugu’s latest Heritage capsule collection. The space, a fusion of iconic design and craftsmanship, resonated with the shared values of both brands, celebrating African heritage and contemporary aesthetics.

Magugu House has served as a canvas to showcase this unique partnership, with plans to extend the collaboration across various projects throughout the year.
Elevating Design Through Collaboration
With a focus on local production and global designs rooted in Africa, Weylandtstudio is proud to have played a crucial part in curating and contributing to the cohesive design of Magugu House, aligning with their commitment to craftsmanship and using furniture to create emotive spaces.
