There is a plethora of talented genre fluid producers in the country and one such producer goes by the name Zuks. He may be relatively unknown outside of the close-knit DJ community, but the Johannesburg-based music artist and producer has built a bit of a name for himself with his music being featured on top platforms, such as Beats 1’s Soulection Radio.
Zuks recently released a new EP titled Late Bloomer, which may have flown under your radar. The 5-track EP has a runtime of 19 minutes and 30 seconds and boasts features from Kevi Kev, ASAP Shembe, Dali Danger and more. The opening track on the EP sees Zuks delve into an Afrocentric-inspired sound that brings about feelings of nostalgia. PhilaBoi K’s maskandi-espue cadence provides a contrast to Kevi Kev’s Kwaito approach to the production. The EP then transitions into Jika, which is a soft blend of Amapiano and serves as an interlude before delving into the aggressive ASAP Shembe led Phoko Phoko. The highlight of the EP comes via the outro titled Hold Me featuring Afro R&B vocalist, MAUIMØON. Hold Me sees Zuks deliver a blend of R&B and Hip-Hop rhythms with subtle traces of future bass.
