Here’s Star!
Creative Professional by right, Star, originally started out at 10and5 as a Full-time employee working in Talent Management and Production. In her current position, she takes on the role of Cape-Town-based Creative Consultant. Her role places her as the main-source liaison between the Agency, clients ,artists and our audience. She maintains structure whilst simultaneously activating the voice, tone, and moderation of our brand through community support, content distribution across channels, and digital engagement to build brand presence and trust, both online and in-person.
Star Senamile Shongwe, based between Cape Town and Joburg, is a strong member in our team! Read below, as she shares some of her experiences working at The Agency.
Joining 10and5:
“There is no better canvas than 10and5 actually because you can really make it your own and sort of design your experience. I joined 10and5 in 2019 as part of an in-house production team creating original content. Since then I have done talent management, community management as well as content creation and experience curation. As a ‘polymath’ it has been awesome to co-ideate and execute so much with the great people who have been part of 10and5 over the years. I have enjoyed so much, to work directly with very creative people, as well as 10and5’s Founder, Uno de Waal. While I stopped working full-time and moved to a more consulting role mid-2021, I have always felt that Between 10and5 as a publication and agency is very important to the creative narrative of South Africa over the past 10+ years. This is largely why I am still here!”.
Achievements at 10and5:
“Since being a part of the team I have been responsible for all end-to-end communication, project management and running of Instagram Auctions. During the course of this period, through the auctions I have assisted the Agency in raising approximately R300 000 combined, for companies and artists such as Creative Women Month, Machine67 auction, The BASA Artist Relief auction, Save The Six and most recently The Bag Factory Artist Studios auction’’.
Favourite projects worked on so far?
”This will sound like a cop-out answer, but I think all of them have been my favourite. Each project adds value to me in different ways. Okay… maybe I will choose the most recent one with Beefeater actually! For this event, we brought together the most amazing group of guys. They are the guys behind Broke and Pizza Shed. We worked together with them to create a Beefeater: City Stories Clash. Overseeing and managing the execution of this event coming to life, was a glorious occasion. My favourite part was seeing how these guys have activated Cape Town and really built strong communities of support. It gives me hope for what the talented youth of this country can achieve. Another favourite, is a team workshop where 10and5 was commissioned to curated a 3 day experience in Johannesburg for the Pernord Ricard team which moved from Cape Town to Johannesburg back in 2020”.
Exciting moments on Star’s Radar from 2020-2022
”Wow! it feels like the past 3 years has been more like 20 years, haha. There have been many shifts in terms of character development, both full of losses and wins. But, I will try to summarise some of these highlights. In 2020, I did more of my photography work. Most excitingly, I got the opportunity to work with the Zabalaza Festival held at the Baxter Theatre. I also worked on the biggest Creative Women Month yet at 10and5, alongside great people like Rebecca Jacobs, Suwi Kabwe, Thabang Buthelezi and Amy Smith.
In 2021, I joined the V&A Waterfront team as part of an amazing food destination named Makers Landing. Like TKZee sang ” I really love this place” and the people I have encountered and I am looking forward to what is to come. 2022 so far has shown me that there is still some exciting stuff coming up for me. In the meantime, I have been collaborating a lot this year with great organisations, people and my fellow tribe in the creative community. I also went back to school this year in pursuit of my postgraduate degree at Red and Yellow”.
