Stormzy To Headline Rocking The Daisies Festival

Steyn Entertainment has had South Africa eager in anticipation following the successful return of Rocking the Daisies in 2022.

The countries biggest Music and Lifestyle festival has teamed up with headline sponsor Johnnie Walker once again to give fans a taste of local and international talent from 6-8 October 2023 at Cloof Wine Estate, Cape Town and 8 October 2023 at SuperSport Park, Johannesburg.

Today, South Africa’s top voted event announced its first international addition to the #JWxRTD 2023 line-up – universally beloved grime and hip-hop mogul STORMZY whom has headlined major festivals across the world such as Rolling Loud, Glastonbury and Coachella – who will be coming to Mzansi for the first time.

STORMZY – real name Michael Ebenezer Kwadjo Omari Owuo Jr –started his career in the early 2010s by uploading his “Wicked Skengman” series of freestyles to YouTube over classic grime beats and has since risen to stardom and established himself as one of the globes most critically acclaimed artists. Climbing out of the underground grime scene with a series of triumphant mixtapes, singles, and freestyles – he made his breakthrough in 2017 with his official full-length platinum-certified, chart-topping debut album, Gang Signs & Prayer, which incorporated a taste of gospel and R&B influences seen on popular songs such as single “Big for Your Boots,” “Cigarettes & Cush” with KEHLANI, and “Blinded by Your Grace, Pt. 2” with MNEK, with other collaborations ranging from the likes of Ed Sheeran and Burna Boy to name a few.

The UK rapper’s third album titled ‘This is what I mean’, was released in November 2022 with guests vocalists including SAMPHAJACOB COLLIERAYRA STARR and NAO. The album has been described as an expression of worship and an earnest message of self-affirmation—but with plenty of flexing across the 12 track drop.

“We’re excited to have Stormzy as one of our headliners at this year’s festival following the unforeseen circumstances brought by the Covid-19 pandemic. He is an unbelievably talented performer with an incredible catalogue of music,” says Festival Director, Shannon Valstar. “As a company that’s looking to bridge the gap between South Africa and the World, it’s very exciting to be able to provide International stars with the opportunity to connect with an African audience for the first time in their careers, so keep an eye on our socials because this is only the beginning of what we’ve got cooking with Johnnie Walker for 2023.”

Johnnie Walker and Rocking The Daisies have given South Africa a taste of what to expect at this year’s edition of #JWxRTD, and with the addition of STORMZY as a headliner it’s sure to be packed with lots of flavour.
