Thuso Mbedu Joins Star-Studded HBO Series ‘Task’

South African talent is shining on the global stage again. Thuso Mbedu has joined the cast of Task, a new HBO drama set to hit Showmax later this year.

In the first look released this week, Mbedu is seen in action alongside Saltburn star Alison Oliver. She plays Aleah, a member of a task force trying to stop a string of violent robberies.

Task is created by Brad Ingelsby, the mind behind Mare of Easttown. The cast is stacked. Mark Ruffalo leads the team as an FBI agent, with Tom Pelphrey (Ozark), Emilia Jones (CODA), Jamie McShane (Wednesday), and Fabien Frankel (House of the Dragon) also on the line-up.

The series will debut in September on HBO and land first on Showmax in South Africa.

For Mbedu, this is the latest in a string of major international roles. After getting two International Emmy nominations for her breakout role in Is’thunzi, she went on to star in Barry Jenkins’ The Underground Railroad and The Woman King alongside Viola Davis. She’s also voiced characters in Mufasa: The Lion King and Castlevania: Nocturne.

From KZN to HBO, Thuso Mbedu keeps making moves. And we’ll be watching and keeping you updated.
