ICE CREAM x Reebok Board Flip

Pharrell and NIGO’s Board Flip returns to SA

ShelfLife brought the return of the ICE CREAM x Reebok Board Flip to Cape Town this week with a First Thursdays launch that turned 50 Bree Street into a celebration of street culture, community and nostalgia.

The event marked the South African arrival of the silhouette first introduced in 2005 through the creative worlds of Pharrell Williams and NIGO. More than two decades later, the Board Flip returns carrying the same playful energy that made it a standout across skate culture and streetwear in the first place.

For many, ICE CREAM still holds a particular place in fashion history. The brand helped shape a visual language built on colour, humour and individuality, while Reebok’s archive continues to feed some of streetwear’s most recognisable silhouettes. Together, the collaboration still feels fresh.

The South African release arrived in two colourways, Pink Lemonade and Watermelon. Both tap into that familiar ICE CREAM universe while sitting easily as everyday sneakers rather than straight-up collector pieces.

For the Cape Town launch, ShelfLife built an experience around that mood. The Bree Street store shifted into an immersive space filled with soft serve, waffles, music and custom visuals, with vintage TVs and bright cable installations pulling the shoe into a setting that felt playful without trying too hard. Outside, First Thursdays brought its usual crowd and energy. Inside, the launch pulled together the mix of creatives, sneakerheads and streetwear fans that has become part of ShelfLife’s DNA.

The shoe itself keeps the details that made the original stand out. A leather upper pairs with perforated panels, suede eyestays and a textured rubber toe cap, while the EVA midsole carries painted grooves that nod back to the original design language. ICE CREAM branding lands across the tongue, heel and sockliner, with the signature Cones & Bones logo stamped at the back.

It is a shoe that still speaks fluently to its skate roots while fitting fashion right now.

The release also places South Africa within the wider return of the Board Flip after its recent reappearance through global cultural moments including ComplexCon Las Vegas in late 2025. Bringing that momentum to Cape Town feels fitting for a collaboration shaped by two creators whose influence still moves across music, design and fashion.

The ICE CREAM x Reebok Board Flip landed in South Africa on 7 May and is available through ShelfLife online and in-store in Johannesburg and Cape Town. The Pink Lemonade and Watermelon colourways retail for R2799.99 in sizes UK6 to UK11, with stock limited to one pair per customer.
