Don’t Miss Out: Nando’s Hot Young Designer 2026

OPPORTUNITY RADAR: Applications for the 2026 edition of Nando’s Hot Young Designer are officially open, and young South African designers now have until 16 June 2026 to enter.

Since launching in 2016, the biennial talent search has become one of the country’s best known platforms for emerging design talent. The programme has helped launch careers, connect young creatives with industry networks and open doors to local and international opportunities.

This year’s brief challenges entrants to design a striking linear light that could work in any Nando’s restaurant around the world. The piece should balance function and craftsmanship, while also considering installation, transport and longevity. Designers are encouraged to experiment with texture, colour and materials, and collaborative handmade elements are welcomed.

The programme unfolds in three phases. First comes the open call for entries, followed by a shortlist phase where finalists develop prototypes. One winning designer-maker will then receive tailored business support that includes mentorship, market access, showcasing opportunities and community engagement.

Hot Young Designer forms part of the wider Nando’s Design Programme and is managed by Clout/SA, a platform focused on connecting South African designers and makers with commercial opportunities both locally and abroad.

Previous winners include Thabisa Mjo of Mash T. Design, who has previously described the initiative as life changing and a major turning point in her career.

The opportunity is open to young South African designers ready to grow their practice and gain exposure within the country’s design industry.

Applications close on 16 June 2026.
