The Standard Bank Young Artist Awards (SBYAA) are back. The winners of the 2022 SBYAAs were announced on the evening of 29 November 2022 at a ceremony in Johannesburg, emceed by 2020 SBYAA winner, Jefferson ‘J.Bobs’ Tshabalala.
Receiving a Standard Bank Young Artist Award is a huge honour for an artist. The SBYAAs have come to be recognised as one of the most prestigious prizes offered to South African artists under the age of 35. This year’s winners join the ranks of a stellar collective that have become household names over the last four decades. This year’s awards also included a new category – Poetry.
Standard Bank and the National Arts Festival proudly presented the six winners for 2022: LADY SKOLLIE (Visual Arts), Koleka Putuma (Poetry), Mahlatsi Mokgonyana and Billy Langa (Theatre Duo) (Theatre), Sylvester Thamsanqa (Thami) Majela (Dance), Msaki (Music) and Linda Sikhakhane (Jazz).
