Cape Town’s Playtopia festival is back this December, and you could win one of two double weekend passes to join in the fun! Taking place December 6-7 at the Homecoming Centre, Playtopia is all about celebrating indie games, interactive art, and digital creativity. From a main arcade of local and global games to VR rooms and hands-on art, there’s a lot to see and do.

Expect a hands-on experience with local and international games, plus workshops, panels, and food vendors. One highlight is the Super Friendship Arcade, where custom controllers and unconventional setups let visitors dive into playful, unexpected experiences.
For creators and aspiring developers, the Playtopia Summit will offer two days of talks and panels. Both local and international speakers will share insights to inspire the next generation of game developers. Past speakers have included big names like Paulo Perdercini (Molle Industria) and Anita Sarkeesian (Feminist Frequency), and the 2024 lineup is soon to be announced.
In addition to games, attendees will experience Indie Planet, an arcade showcasing games from other global festivals, such as Bitsummit (Japan) and A.Maze (Germany). Interactive art installations will encourage festival-goers to explore creativity in new ways.
Playtopia wraps up with an after-party at Botanik on Saturday night, hosted by Discotekah.
