Jhoomka earrings have maintained their status throughout history in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh as coveted earrings.
It’s been a few months since a brother and sister-run jewellery brand launched Jhoomka. Asmeeta and Jatin were inspired during their trip to India to bring traditional Indian earrings to South Africa to adorn your ears. Jhoomka earrings, or jhumka as it is more commonly spelled, are a style of earring worn by women of the Indian subcontinent. With roots in the epics and history, jhoomkas started their journey as part of south Indian traditional temple jewellery – earrings made to decorate the deities in temples. Originally made in pure gold and studded with rubies, diamonds and emeralds, their shapes mimic the domes of the palaces and temples that hosted the deities. Jhoomka earrings have maintained their status throughout history in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh as coveted earrings.
Based in Cape Town, jewellery brand Jhoomka delivers country-wide, and have a beautiful selection of authentic, unique imitation earrings that are hand-painted directly from India. You can purchase their special pieces from their website here.
